Three weeks old!

May 1-3, 2011

Wow, I cannot believe that the kits are three weeks old already!
They have doubled in size again. They are also very, very active now.

Last week, when we brought them out to play, they would last 15-30 minutes and then would all go and cuddle up again for a rest. NOW... I have to put them all back in their nest after an hour, hour and a half. They are all turning into little energizer bunnies.

The minute you open the cage door to fill up their water or  food, clean up a mess, etc, they are trying to push their way out past you.

It used to be that any semblance of a barrier (an empty paper towel tube, a rolled up blanket or towel, your leg) would be enough to keep them contained. NOW, they just climb and jump over anything.

We listened to the sounds of one intrepid little soul for a full day while s/he tried (jumping, almost catching, and then sliding back down the side) to get up on top of the cardboard box (lying on its side) that they use as a resting area. That's the time that it took him/her, one day. Now, they're all up on top of the box.

It usually takes one of the a few tries to get the hang of something new, and then the next thing we know, they're all doing it. They now have their own food dish, water bottle and salt/mineral lick on the bottom floor of the "condo". Sometimes the sounds of rabbits drinking from water bottles can drive you crazy, especially when Sugar is drinking in his cage on the right hand side of the living room, and Cuddles is drinking from her bottle on the second floor of the "condo" AND one of the kits is drinking from their bottle on the bottom floor of the "condo" which is on the left hand side of the living room. If you happen to be sitting on the couch or floor, you get the sound in stereo!

Annoyances aside, they are just so much fun to watch and interact with now. They are all friendly and love being held and pet. they are very playful and curious, but still have not quite perfected their physical abilities, so they often fall over, or their little jumps and runs go sideways. AND just like a cat, they decide that they need to be on the other side of the room/pen/play area, like 5 minutes ago, and , blur, they're gone.
So much Fun!

We are starting to see that in a few more weeks, our living space will be overrun by bunnies. Right now, it is still hard to imagine giving them away as they have so quickly stolen our hearts and become part of our lives, but I can also see how if they keep growing as they have been, that there will absolutely be no choice.

So... please do let us know if you or anyone you know would be a good bunny parent. They will not be able to go for another 5-8 weeks, but visits could certainly be arranged before that, so the bunny of your choice gets used to you.

Enjoy the latest pictures.
