I'm starting to get the idea that the next two months are going to be a bit challenging.
All of the kits are digging in the nest box now. The sound of little claws scrabbling on the bottom of the cardboard box is almost NON-STOP!
They still do not seem to be much larger in size than the last few days, but their features are becoming more defined. You can also feel the weight difference when you hold them. It is probably only a matter of ounces, but they are now a nice solid weight in your hand.
We had the nest out on the floor this evening to watch and play with the kits. We were given the distinct compliment of being able to watch Cuddles nurse her babies. It is apparently rare for the mom to nurse the babies when anyone is watching, let alone right beside her, out in the open. She just climbed into the box and stood over them. It is quite funny to watch the kits feed. They lay upside down with their little legs kicking around like crazy.
It is also starting to become apparent that Cuddles misses Sugar's companionship. They are, after all, a bonded pair now. When it is her turn to be out exercising, Cuddles keeps going to Sugar's cage. We have even caught them "nuzzling noses" between the cage bars. It's going to be another two weeks before they can run around about together again. We are absolutely loving the experience of having the kits, but will not put anyone/anybunny through this again.
Sounds like Sugar is looking forward to moving the 'kids' into their own room, so he and Cuddles resume their married life again.
